Some of what the Valley Youth Club does:
On behalf of Juneau Youth Services, I would like to thank you for your recent help with the Valley Youth Club. While we were not able to keep the Club open on a long-term basis, we were successful in achieving all of our original goals. A brief description is presented below on what we accomplished with our three main goals:
Keep the club open at least through January 12, 2010.
We exceeded this goal and managed to keep the Club open through January 29, 2010. Approximately 60 youth used the Club during this time period. By keeping the Club open for these last 3½ months, we were able to assist families in the process of finding alternative after-school activities for their children.
Continue our fundraising efforts.
The short-term fundraising efforts were very successful. Through your generosity and the contributions of other individuals, businesses, and community groups, we were able to raise sufficient funds to pay a majority of the expenses associated with the Valley Youth Club from October through January. The remaining expenses were paid directly through a contribution by Juneau Youth Services.
Develop a long-range plan for the Club.
Our main accomplishment here was to develop a report which analyzes future options for before and after-school services in Juneau. This report was by developed by Kevin Ritchie, former City Manager, and includes the input of many community members with experience and expertise in this area. A copy of this report is located Here and above.
Thank you again for your generosity as we work with the community to establish broader and more sustainable before and after-school services for youth in Juneau.
